How does WhatLingo work?
WhatLingo connects to your WhatsApp account through WhatsApp Web. Once linked, it instantly and continuously translates all incoming messages and lets you reply in your own language — no need to copy, paste, or switch apps.
Does it really work with group chats?
Yes. WhatLingo handles both one-on-one and group chats — even when multiple people are messaging in different languages at the same time.
How do I connect my WhatsApp account?
Just enter your phone number, copy the verification code, and paste it into WhatsApp’s “Linked Devices” section. Then return to WhatLingo immediately— you’ll be connected and ready to go. For detailed instructions, visit our help page or live chat with us at anytime.
Is my data private and safe?
Yes. Your messages are never stored outside your device and you choose which chats to translate. When a message translation is required, the content of the message is securely and anonymously transmitted to our translation provider using HTTPS encryption. Your phone number is used only to connect with your WhatsApp account and is not transmitted or stored. View our privacy policy
Which languages does it support?
Currently 15 languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Dutch, Catalan, Ukrainian, Georgian, and Hindi. Romanian, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Czech, Indonesian, Tagalog, and Malay will be available in June 2025, with more coming later in the month.
Will people know I'm using it?
No. Your contacts simply receive natural, translated messages in their language — they don’t need to install anything or even know you're using WhatLingo. (Although we’d love if you helped spread the word to others who would find it helpful!)
What about voice messages and images?
Support for voice messages and images is coming soon. For now, WhatLingo focuses on lightning-fast text translation in any chat.
What if I’m having account connection problems?
Contact live chat support or watch our 1-minute setup video. The most important thing is to return to WhatLingo immediately when you see the Logging In message and loader on WhatsApp. Need more help? Visit our help page.
What translation technology do you use?
WhatLingo uses advanced AI models including Google Gemini for accurate translations that sound natural.
Is WhatLingo free?
WhatLingo offers a free trial so you can experience everything it has to offer. After the trial, it’s available through a simple monthly subscription. You can cancel anytime through your App Store settings.
Who created WhatLingo?
WhatLingo was created by Whitespectre, a technology and product company with an international team spanning 15 countries. For over a decade, we’ve partnered with leading U.S. companies to design, build, and grow their mobile apps.
As a tight knit group of multilingual people — many of us expats!— we built WhatLingo to stay connected with our communities, teams, and friends. Now we’re sharing it to help others do the same.
